Dive Travel Deal: The Maldives Aggressor, Maldives, OTHER, Maldives

July 5 - August 23 2009 The Maldives Aggressor, Maldives, OTHER, Maldives

The Maldives Islands lie Southwest of India. Scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem-like islands of the Maldives depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. Palm fringed islands with sparkling white beaches, turquoise lagoons, clear warm waters and coral reefs teeming with abundant varieties of marine flora and fauna, fascinates visitors as it has for thousands of years.

There are three distinctly different types of diving: inside the atolls, outside the atolls and inside the channels or passes, which is where the currents are strongest and youll find the greatest congregation of fish life. Most intriguing are the cleaning stations, found around every corner and under every ledge. Groupers, Snappers, Surgeonfish, Eels, Parrotfish, even Giant Napoleon Wrasse park casually in corners, oblivious to all, (including cameras) while armies of wrasse, shrimp and other assorted cleaners pick at debris in their open gills and cavernous mouths.

The big attraction, however, are the schools of fish that patrol the reefs in colorful packs: Humpback and Black and White Snappers, Trevally Jacks, Barracuda, Batfish, Unicornfish, Yellowback Fusiliers and Harlequin Sweetlips almost comical in design. The reefs larger inhabitants, including sharks, rays and occasionally even Whale Sharks, are often seen cruising in the blue.

Scuba Diving Event August 1 - August 8: Cozumel, Mexico

we are inviting teams of divers to buddy up and join us in a dive event with a chance to compete against other teams by using their underwater diving skills to earn them the title of "the ultimate diver team", and in the quest to earn the sole title of "the ultimate diver". experience a vacation with over $13,000 in prizes and products along with the opportunity to become a better diver. the ultimate diver challenge allows our industry to emphasize the extreme importance that is placed on education, safety and training. although diving is typically seen as an individual, non competitive sport, our industry and each of us are obligated to maintain basic scuba skills that will keep our reefs and marine life safe from human harm. these essential skills, fine tuned and practiced will also maintain the safety and our obligation to be the "best" dive buddy.

Similar to a walk-a-thon, divers seek financial pledges from friends and family to support their diving goal during the month of July. Divers choose to set fundraising goals and compete to log the most minutes underwater. ANY diver in the world can register for this event, and registered divers can get credit for dives completed ANYWHERE in the world during July.

Catalina Chamber Day/Evening 2009

Scuba Diving Event May 6: , CA, USA

as you may or may not know, the catalina chamber is dedicated strictly to the treatment of diving accidents on a 24/7/365 basis. although we hope you’ll never need it, having the chamber available gives divers a vital safety net in the event something should go wrong with your dive. although there is a grant from la county, and the chamber gets income from some outside activities, chamber day provides a significant portion (close to 50%) of the chamber’s annual budget. the main event is chamber day , a full day of diving (two dives) at catalina plus a walking tour of the chamber at the isthmus. cost for this is $90 (plus $30 for food &amp airfills) which gets you the diving, the tour, a t-shirt, and five raffle tickets. for those who can’t take a day off but would still like to participate we have the flying dutchman , a mythical boat but a big part of chamber day as it’s the perfect place for those who can’t do the event. those who choose to “dive” the dutchman get a special limited-edition t-shirt (available only to those who sign up for the dutchman) as well as raffle tickets. there’s also the chamber challenge , where the diving community is “challenged” to raise extra funds for our chamber, through specific donations (usually $100, but also $500 and $1000), which then hopefully challenges your friends to match your generosity. r affle tickets can be purchased for the daytime raffle (you need not be present to win) whether you’re going on a boat or just want a chance at winning some fabulous prizes.

St. Lucia’s exclusive Anse Chastanet Resort

At the heart of St Lucia’s very best diving is the Anse Chastanet resort. The entire region is surrounded by a marine reserve (SMMA) which was established in 1995. This location offers unbelievable beach and boat diving for the traveling diver.

St. Lucia’s trademark green peaks, (Piti and Gros Piton mountains), make a dramatic back drop for this 600 acre lush resort which borders one of the islands finest beaches. Anse Chasanet offers 49 individually designed rooms. 37 of which are scatter about the lush hillside, and 12 which are nestled within a tropical garden at the beach level.

The complete set-up for beach and boat diving is offered. Guest equipment storage, well equipped dive store, rental gear and a photo and video center add to the convenience for the diver. With the reef system starting just 10 yards from the beach, ranging anywhere from 20 to 140 feet in clear calm water, the amount of marine life is amazing. As good as the beach diving is, the boat dives to walls of the Piton Mountains are spectacular. Over 150 species can be found making this a photographer’s dream. All the dives are led by an instructor and a shore dive is a required “first” dive to ensure the diver’s skills and all equipment is in order. This dive will also serve as an orientation to entering the marine reserve.

American Airlines, Air Jamaica, US Airways, Delta Airways, American Eagle, BWIA, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, BMI, Air Canada, Air France, Condor via Barbados, LIAT, Caribbean Star all service to St Lucia.
Direct flights out of Miami into Hewanorra International Airport are available. Transportation from the airport can be arranged by the resort or a taxi will cost around US $60 from the airport.

A recent addition to the Anse Chastanet Resort, Jade Mountain is a resort within a resort. Jade Mountain sits at a higher elevation on Morne Chastanet than the rest of the resort, offering breathtaking views of the picturesque Pitons. These luxurious suites, known as sanctuaries, each come with their own infinity edge pool.

Facilities at the resort include 2 restaurants and bars, excursion and car rental desk, 2 beachside boutiques, spa, scuba and water sport center, art gallery, library, bike and kayak center.

Reaching the Hillside rooms may not be for everyone as they have around 100 stairs leading from the beach level to the mid-hillside level. They do have a shuttle on request if the stairs are something you are not looking forward to.

The dive center, Scuba St Lucia is a SSI Platinum Pro and PADI Gold Palm Dive Center and can handle all of your diving needs. Everything from intro to scuba through assistant instructor level courses is available.

The staff is multi-national with thousands of logged dives in the marine reserve. The reef just off shore is the perfect location for instruction, clear calm and a lot to see. Scuba St. Lucia operates 3 dive boats that are well equipped for the safety and comfort of the divers.

Excellent beach dives include Anse Chastanet Reef and Turtle Reef. Both are very good photography sites because of the plentiful and diversity of marine life. Flounders Eels morays seahorses and octopus are all commonplace.

There are several shipwrecks no more than 30 minutes away by boat. The Dani Koymaru and Lesleeh “M” range from 65 to 105 feet in depth. The Dani Koymaru, a 250 foot dredge was intentionally sunk in 1996 as a dive location. Both are reachable by any one of the 3 dive boats Scuba St. Lucia operates.

Typical reef dives range 30 to 130 feet in depth and 80 to 100 foot visibility is not uncommon. Superman’s Flight though not known for large reef dwellers or pelagic there is plenty of colorful fish and quite frequently turtles to see.

St. Lucia has spectacular scenery and many sightseeing attractions are available. Nature hike’s, shopping, sunset sailing, escorted snorkel tours and deep sea fishing are just some of the activities. Of course relaxing and just taking in the peace and tranquility of Anse Chastanet is also a nice way to enjoy your stay.

For further information or reservation at Anse Chastanet go to Ansechastanet.com

Scuba Diving Event September 15 - September 16: Two Harbors - Catalina Island, CA, USA

join dr. michael powell on a fascinating journey into "advanced decompression physiology." this program has evolved from requests for a class on diving physiology that would be suitable for advanced divers and diving leaders eager to understand the forces at work on the ocean within the body during decompression. this course is taught from the aspect of gas phase (bubble) dynamics instead of from the vantage point of decompression table theory. students will learn what bubbles actually do inside living organisms rather than what is considered "safe" or "unsafe" according to decompression tables or dive computers. starting with a historical perspective of decompression research, this course covers aspects of gas exchange oxygen and oxygen toxicity and doppler bubble detection. most of the program will focus on bubble development and growth decompression sickness gas phase research bubble control and the influence of diving decompression research on space decompression and vice versa. this class is a must for any diver curious about the forces affecting them on every dive, and especially for those divers who think they know what is going on.

Scuba Diving Event July 27: Marathon, FL, USA

free lobster rodeo to prepare divers for miniseason marathon, florida keys - a multiagency safe-diving initiative designed to enhance sport diving and boating safety is to be highlighted at the second annual lobster rodeo &amp dive safety expo set for sunday, july 27. the free event is to be staged on knights key, mile marker 47 at the seven mile bridge , three days prior to the july 30 opening of florida s two-day lobster miniseason - a period that traditionally attracts large numbers of divers to the keys. the challenge, marine-related officials say, is that in divers enthusiasm to catch the tasty florida spiny lobster, many either forget or neglect to exercise proper and simple scuba diving safety measures. failure to do so can result in diving accidents, and sometimes those mishaps can be catastrophic. accidents occur in shallow water with divers forgetting very basic skills, said robert guhl, chairman of the safe-diving initiative. most are preventable if divers review or "refresh" skills and check their equipment functions properly. the lobster rodeo combines scuba skills stations with minisafety briefings. skills stations vary from basic mask clearing to controlled emergency swimming ascents and weight ping. there also are demonstrations and contests designed to hone participants lobster-catching skills, including tickling techniques and bagging simulated lobsters. to participate in the events scuba activities, attendees must bring their scuba certification card and their own gear. minibriefings are to include safe-boating skills, dive flag use, proper lobster gauging, gear demos, florida keys national marine sanctuary rules and how to avoid the bends. participating area dive shops are to be on hand to showcase value-added dive packages in addition to information promoting safe diving. the marathon rotary club plans to sell beverages. the dive safety program is a result of a combined effort of the u.s. coast guard, florida fish and wildlife conservation commission, monroe county sheriffs office and key west police department marine units, florida keys national marine sanctuary, florida keys community college , keys association of dive operators, lower keys medical center and fishermens hospital. for lobster rodeo details, or to download cards containing dive safety and emergency tips created by the florida keys safe diving initiative, visit the organizations web site at www.fla-keysdive.com . for more information about diving, snorkeling and accommodations in the florida keys , visit www.fla-keys.com.

Dive Travel Deal: Solmar V Guadalupe, Guadalupe, Mexico

July 30 - August 3 2008 Solmar V Guadalupe, Guadalupe, Mexico

Departing from Ensenada, Mexico, this is our newest dive adventure in the Baja California area. In 2005, we teamed up with Great White Adventures in order to provide our guests the opportunity to view the apex predator of the sea – the great white shark.

Located in the Pacific Ocean approximately 180 miles west of Ensenada, Mexico, Guadalupe Island is rapidly becoming the world’s best location for diving with great white sharks. The visibility is often more than 100’ and the water temperature averages between 65F-70F. This is cage diving at its most exciting and, because you will be using surface supplied air (hookah) instead of scuba tanks, you do not need to be a certified scuba diver in order to participate in these trips. These 5 day trips are shorter than our other diving excursions so they are perfect for a great mini-vacation.

Solmar V, in conjunction with Great White Adventures, also offers submersible cage diving on our Guadalupe Island expeditions.

The submersible cage allows us to descend a little further into the world of the great white shark. Although the submersible cage is only 20 below the surface of the water, it provides a completely different perspective to your great white shark diving experience. These spectacular dives are available to certified scuba divers only. A Great White Adventures safety diver escorts one diver at a time on these 20 minute dives. We rotate all certified divers who wish to experience the submersible cage as many times as conditions will allow. The view offered by the submersible cage is a photographers dream come true. You are actually surrounded on all sides by the apex predator of the sea. We have had an exceptional response from our guests about how phenomenal this experience is. Both professional and amateur photographers rave about the different angles available to capture the mighty great white sharks of Guadalupe Island.
$2900
