The inaugural year of the Northern California Dive and Travel Expo was a resounding success to say the least. The event, which showcased a multitude of dive and travel manufacturers, clothing vendors, hydro-environmental advocacy groups and charity organizations, ran from May 12-13, and provided entertainment and education for approximately 2000 participants. �This was such a unique weekend, I�m just glad I was a part of it.� Selene Muldowney, Expo Coordinator said. �California has welcomed us like family, and we can�t wait for May 4-5, 2013 when we get to do it again � only bigger and better!� The 2013 event will host 50+ free seminars on everything from underwater photography to first aid with DAN. Scuba Diving Event March 4: Grand Haven, MI, USA

This is a fun event for Certified Scuba Divers sponsored by West Michigan Dive Shops. and other West Michigan business. Divers/Snorkelers will compete in 7 different underwater events. 1. Slalom/Obstacle Course 2. Underwater Gear Assembly 3. Dart Throw 4. Snorkel Object Retrieve 5. Puzzle Assembly 6. Speed Control Obstacle Course 7. Grand Finale Tired Diver Tow Relay Race A traveling trophy will be awarded to the winning team with medals given to the top 3 teams. Teams will consist of at least 4 and no more than 6 divers/snorkelers who will donate $15 per person to help with pool rent and other expenses. Team members who donate $25 will get an event T-Shirt. Any profits realized will go to the West Michigan Underwater Preserve (proposed). Only 1 professional (Dive Master or Instructor) per team and air only NO Nitrox. Divers/Snorkelers are to bring their own bottom booted tanks, weights, regulators, gear and C-cards. Lockers are available at the pool. Food can be brought to the facility but not in the pool area. Scuba Travel Ventures is now proud to offer divers the chance to spend a week luxuriating in a Pacific paradise while elevating their underwater photography skills. Noted underwater photographer Dr. Andre Smith is leading a seminar on the subject from Thursday, August 11 to Saturday, August 20 at Matava � Fiji�s leading eco-adventure resort, on the island of Kadavu � for shooters of all levels of skill and experience. �We�re taking all comers, aiming to make sure that everyone gets the right level of attention,� says Smith, an anesthesiologist by profession who originally hails from South Africa but now calls British Columbia home. �Some resorts and live-aboards offer courses, but they forget that people are on holiday and want to have fun. The diving will be fun and easy and not pressurized.� The diving goes down in the Great Astrolabe Reef, one of the Pacific�s most radiant dive jewels, located on Kadavu�s southern shore. With an area of about 75 miles, the reef is the world�s fourth largest and features encounters with graceful manta rays, curious reef sharks, a rainbow palette of tropical fish, spectacularly colorful hard and soft corals, walls and mesmerizing passages. Some of the sexiest sites include a handful in the immaculate Naiqoro Marine Reserve, the aptly named Manta Reef, the richly colored Japanese Gardens and Coral Wonderland. as you may or may not know, the catalina chamber is dedicated strictly to the treatment of diving accidents on a 24/7/365 basis. although we hope you�ll never need it, having the chamber available gives divers a vital safety net in the event something should go wrong with your dive. although there is a grant from la county, and the chamber gets income from some outside activities, chamber day provides a significant portion (close to 50%) of the chamber�s annual budget. the main event is chamber day , a full day of diving (two dives) at catalina plus a walking tour of the chamber at the isthmus. cost for this is $90 (plus $30 for food & airfills) which gets you the diving, the tour, a t-shirt, and five raffle tickets. for those who can�t take a day off but would still like to participate we have the flying dutchman , a mythical boat but a big part of chamber day as it�s the perfect place for those who can�t do the event. those who choose to �dive� the dutchman get a special limited-edition t-shirt (available only to those who sign up for the dutchman) as well as raffle tickets. there�s also the chamber challenge , where the diving community is �challenged� to raise extra funds for our chamber, through specific donations (usually $100, but also $500 and $1000), which then hopefully challenges your friends to match your generosity. r affle tickets can be purchased for the daytime raffle (you need not be present to win) whether you�re going on a boat or just want a chance at winning some fabulous prizes.
