I have a ´´starter´´ underwater setup I have been diving with for a year. BUT, I just got a Canon 30D with Aquatic housing... complete with a gouge from the tooth of a Tiger Shark! You heard it right... I bought the setup from one of the photographers for Sharkdiver Magazine! I am going to Key West Oct 12-16 and will dive the USS Vandenberg. Like you, I have a spouse that could care less about diving, but sends me on the trips! I love her! We also cruise twice per year and this Nov will get to dive the eastern Carribean again.
Scuba Discussion Board Post: Re: Fin decision

Re: Fin decision

As far as a paddle style fin goes, the Vipers are not a bad choice at all. They are a current design of fin using technology that´s been around sine the late 80´s/early 90´s. It works, is reletively inexpensive and in this case, is a bit lighter weight set of fins when compared to other models of paddle fin.

Dive Travel Deal: Dumaguete, Dumaguete, OTHER, Philippines

November 13 - November 20 2010 Dumaguete, Dumaguete, OTHER, Philippines

Dumaguete - Philippines November 2010
Start Date: November 13th, 2010
End Date: November 20th, 2010
$1598 Add-on to Puerto Galera trip.
Group Leader: Mike & Michele Johnson
After a week in Puerta Galera, we will take a day off from diving to move to Atlantis’s second resort at Dumaguete. Like the resort in Puerta Galera, the hotel at Dumaguete showcases deluxe rooms that have climate-controlled air conditioning, ceiling fans, en-suite facilities, cable television and a fully-stocked refrigerator. You can upgrade to any of the various suites, such as the deluxe seaview rooms or even the Honeymoon suite, if you really want some extra room! There is a freshwater swimming pool that is filtered by the same system that supplies the hotels drinking water. Situated at the end of the swimming pool is the poolside bar, where you can enjoy a cocktail while soaking up the ambience of the pools waterfall. There is a pool table, or you can play ping pong. There is even a golf course nearby. If you dont think you are getting enough exercise in the water, there is a fully-equipped exercise room at the resort. An important part of every vacation, of course, is the dining. The Atlantis Resort at Dumaguete houses Tokos Restaurant. You can dine on the international or local cuisine while seated on the patio, or you can be shaded in the palapa. Alternatively, you can be served at either the poolside bar or on the pool deck itself. The diving at Dumaguete is quite spectacular in and of itself, even without the splendor or the resort. The house reef is just outside the resort. Slightly longer day trips will take you to the world-famous dive site of Apo Island. The sunlight sparkles through the crystal-clear water to reveal the reef in all of its splendor. In the evening, you can dive with the mandarinfish as they come out for their nightly courtship. This package, like the one in Puerta Galera, is all-inclusive. Your very reasonable cost includes your airfare from San Fransisco, your group transfer to the resort, one-weeks stay, double occupancy, four day dives for six days, and all of your meals. This is too good to miss. Staying at both resorts is the best way to dive the Philippines. You save on airfare, as you get two dive trips for the cost of one flight. Any way you look at it, this is an incomparable vacation. Wonderful accommodations, delicious fare, tropical weather and top-of-the-line diving make for a perfect vacation.

Fishing villages and towns dot the coastline.CoCo View Resort is located on the protected south shore of Roatan. Coral reefs are in more shallow water, and experience calmer seas than the deeper and rougher north side. Because of its location on the windward side of the island the resort enjoys a near constant gentle breeze from the prevailing winds of the Caribbean.

Dive Travel Deal: Raja Ampat - Indonesia, Raja Ampat Archipelago, OTHER, Indonesia

February 6 - February 17 2011 Raja Ampat - Indonesia, Raja Ampat Archipelago, OTHER, Indonesia

“picture perfect”... is how underwater photographers describe this hot new destination. other adventure seeking divers refer to it as “the last best place”. whether you are a shooter or not this is surely one of the really wild and remote places on earth. a true diving frontier!

the raja ampat archipelago is located off the northwestern tip of west papua – formerly known and still sometimes referred to as irian jaya. a bit difficult to get to but the difficulty has benefited the marine
habitat of this remote island area. you will dive some stunning, unexplored reefs, witness breathtaking hard and soft coral gardens, and view a pulsing density of fish life that will leave you slack-jawed. and at this time of year diving with gigantic manta rays is almost guaranteed!

this is not a quick “dive fix”…this is an 11-day charter for the more challenging and adventure seeking diver and traveler. while in raja ampat, our home will be in the spacious comfort of the dolphin exclusive charter, adventurer ii. the adventurer ii, from archipelago resorts and fleet, is a phinisi style schooner, the type that roamed these spice islands hundreds of years ago. the wooden construction creates a feeling of a traditional phinisi vessel, but the level of furnishing and the attention to detail create a fusion of the historical and the modern, unique in the luxury liveaboard industry. raja ampat is blessed with stunning panoramic views, and glowing sunsets. the sun deck on adventurer ii is just the place to view this spectacular scenery.

with fresh and natural ingredients the archipelago adventurer ii culinary team prepares mouth-watering ions that are expertly blended with regional and international flair. fresh caught fish is
plentiful.

custom built dive tenders are designed with the diver in mind. they are comfortable and quick to and from the dive sites, and will also be used for island exploration to areas of interest.

“critter” diving will be high on the agenda as a favorite amongst the underwater photographers that travel to this part of the world. marine biologists and diligent divers alike, travel here to seek and
unveil the mystery of the brightly colored and hairy inconspicuous endemic species, many of which live in these waters at depths not exceeding 20 feet.

there will also be “exploration” dives where who knows what we’ll see! and when opportunity allows, guests will go ashore on some snow white and un-trodden beach, if for no other reason than because few, if any, have ever done so before!

your host for this adventure will be dolphin trip leader al markis. al has dove this area and on this boat on many occasions and can attest to this exciting and fascinating itinerary. experienced guides have unequivocal skills to point out some of the most incredible underwater critters you’ll ever see!!!

so take the plunge and go beyond the ordinary to discover these serene and soothing islands with beautiful landscapes, magnificent coral gardens, and incredible marine life.

chances are that this trip will fill fast. for questions or additional information, call or email trip leader, al markis (916) 813-9120, al.markis@dolphinscuba.com, or call dolphin to reserve your spot. more information about the adventurer ii liveaboard can be found at www.archipelago-fleet.com.

price: $3850, 11 diving days, plus airfare.

built in 1976 as cozumels first dedicated divers resort, scuba club cozumel is still a very intimate place where cozumel aficionados find convenience and good value. the resort is private, safe and secluded from the crowds youll find downtown, but is still close enough to walk to town. the courtyard area us rich with tropical plants adorned with local stone carvings and exotic flowers the roof-top offers a beautiful view of cozumels blue water from a private patio for guests to enjoy. there is a freshwater swimming pool located next to a restaurant and guests can also enjoy shallow diving right in front of the resort.the "fat grouper grill" awaits the return of hungry divers. both restaurants operate on schedules based on diving activities so you never have to worry about waiting around or making a reservation. there are only 61 rooms, finished in tile and stucco. each has individual character with a feel of mexican heritage. all rooms have a private terrace and are air-conditioned.
